MOVES are afoot to make Ringwood’s run-down visitor
information centre the place to go to find out things
about the town.

Stride, the man behind the Daily Echo-backed Ringwood
Loyalty Discount Scheme, was astounded to find the VIC,
located in Meeting House Lane, only opens from 10am to
3.30pm on Wednesdays and Fridays with half-an-hour for
lunch, and from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays.
Lyndhurst’s VIC is open 10am to 5pm seven days a week
and Lymington’s from 10am to 4pm six days a week.
“Ringwood truly deserves a top class tourist information
centre which carries out many more services than it
currently does. It needs to be the information hub of
Ringwood,” he said. “With an increase of about 30 per
cent to 40 per cent of holidaymakers holidaying in the
UK rather than travelling abroad, it strikes me that the
tourist information centre is essential for Ringwood.
“The amount of foreigners choosing the UK will also be
on the increase.”
Ringwood School is being asked about the possibility of
providing work experience for tourism students at the
centre.
And
he wants to form the New Forest Group to exchange
information with other forest towns and villages in a
bid to avoid community event clashes. In addition, the
town will pilot a new visitor information website linked
to the main district council site.
“The visitor information centre should be the first stop
you make when you need to find out information about the
area,” he said.

“Ringwood Loyalty Coach
Party Scheme” A very special welcome to coaches coming into
Ringwood.
In these difficult times
we are looking at new ways of welcoming visitors into our Historical New
Forest Market Town of Ringwood, Hampshire. One of our initiatives is to
encourage coach parties to come into Ringwood. Traders have come up with
very special welcomes such as “Wine Tasting”, “Welcome Treats” &
“Special Coach Party Menus” etc. We have volunteers from the Ringwood
Community who will meet and greet the coaches. Visitors will be given
discount voucher for shops and Restaurants in Ringwood along with
details of their special welcome etc. The re is a steady growing level
of interest in this initiative and I am sure that the message will soon
spread far and wide.

Ringwood’s Traders and Businesses who have joined the Ringwood Loyalty
Discount Scheme gathered in Ringwood High Street for a group photo to
celebrate the launch of the Scheme on Monday 2nd March. Jim
Stride ( Scheme originator) was joined by Desmond Swayne MP, The Mayor
of Ringwood Brian Terry, Mike Lingham-Wilgoss and the ever so important
Town coordinator of the RLDS Scheme Jemma Pipe of the “Naughty
Corner”
The launch on Monday 2nd March will see many community
representatives: Head Teacher of Ringwood School, Carnival & Pedal Car
chiefs and many more along with Desmond Swayne MP, The Mayor of Ringwood
Brian Terry, Mike Lingham-Wilgoss along with many participating Traders
& Businesses. There will be a large representation from the “Bournemouth
Echo” along with other media of all sorts.
As scheme originator my wish is that Ringwood as a whole benefits from
this scheme and that new shop outlets are encouraged to set up in
Ringwood. Ringwood will be a better place if everyone pulls together and
supports their TOWN.

Ringwood Traders and Businesses have pulled together to form a new Loyalty Discount Scheme offering greater value to shoppers with a structured discounting system, making shopping in Ringwood your first choice.
A monthly discount voucher will be available in the “Bournemouth Echo” in the New Forest Section (on MARCH 2nd & 4th plus many dates throughout the year ) and from “Ringwood Focus Magazine”
& downloadable from the website
www.rlds.co.uk
along with Bournemouth Echo website along with a growing list of websites.
These monthly vouchers will provide discounts ranging from 5% - 20%. Just present your voucher either at the checkout in the participating stores, or after receiving a quotation from participating businesses, to receive your discount. Retain this voucher until it expires; as you can re-use it as many times as you wish, then look out for the new voucher.
This scheme has been developed by Jim Stride and is run at NO COST to Traders and Businesses.
I have gained the much needed voluntary support and help from Jemma Pipe of the “Naughty Corner” in Ringwood (my scheme coordinator)
A question asked many times is “why have you created this scheme” and “What’s in it for you?” My answer: “I would like to see Ringwood Town thrive rather than become a ghost town, let’s keep TRADE LOCALand let’s give existing TRADERS the message that we are behind our Town and send out a message to any potential traders of Ringwood that our town is a very good place to set up in”. “Let’s see if we can fill the empty shops of Ringwood by the end of 2009. “Less DOOM & GLOOM and MORE POSITIVE SUPPORT for Ringwood Town”.
The Ringwood Loyalty Discount Scheme will run for all of 2009 and I shall review the need for running in 2010. I am hoping that Ringwood will be thriving by then.
